GIS for project management (OFROU)

The construction of a third motorway lane in the cantons of Vaud and Geneva is currently one of the most important projects in the canton of Geneva, managed by the Federal Roads Office (OFROU).

The GEVA-3 Consortium of the Geneva offices Haller Wasser + partner SA and Vaudois BR+ Ingénieurs were awarded three contracts in 2015, 2016 and 2021.

Given the scale of the project, it is essential to standardize exchanges: centralizing and tracing data flows are the basic ingredients to create a rigorous and efficient working context.

For the first and second mandates, SPATIAL SA developed and implemented an intranet GIS using QGIS (Open Source), available to the Project Manager, and to persons authorized by the Project Manager. An exhaustive inventory of available data is permanently consultable. Centralizing data in a single, easily accessible location is essential for the smooth running of large-scale projects. The engineers appreciated having the data available, in a given location, without forgetting.

For the 3rd mandate, SPATIAL SA offered its partners a web extractor made available to OFROU and its agents, based on a web cartographic solution coupled with a centralized database, respecting GDPR confidentiality of data.
